Nicole Loher fell into being an Adjunct for NYU five years ago. “Unlike many of my friends in academia, this was never a goal of mine, but I fell in love with teaching after the first class and have taught every semester since.” After a few semesters of teaching under her belt, she was given the opportunity to write her own course in social media, which she still teaches to this day.

Nicole is a member of The Council on Foreign Relations, which is an independent, nonpartisan member organization, think tank and publisher. “I am a Young Professional, we meet quarterly with experts in a specific field on trending topics to understand how we can better support out communities and advocate for ethical change. “Most recently we met on the topic of diversity in international affairs and how we can create a positive, systematic change in America.”

While Nicole hasn’t associated herself as a climate change activist until she actively decided to pursue her Master’s Degree in the topic matter. “I grew up split between farmland and on the Chesapeake Bay. I watched, just over my childhood, the devastation to land and our ecosystems happen in-front of my eyes.” Through her day job and in her personal time, she works closely with organizations that are advancing the conversations around climate change.

When posting on social media for her large following, she says that her only intent in posting, ever, is to encourage others to be the best version of themselves they can be. “In general, people are too comfortable with accepting what’s deemed status quo, so I want people to challenge that within themselves and for the world around them.”

Personally, in five years, Nicole wants to own a small shack on a beach so she can surf everyday. “Professionally, I only hope I can continue to create change within organizations as it relates to bettering humanity. My only goal - five years and beyond - is to just keep working to better humanity.”
