Kacey Welch on The Kacey Welch Method

When she was 25 years old, Kacey Welch began doing hair with Art Luna in Santa Monica. He is a classic hair dresser who taught her the fundamentals of doing classic beauty. “I soon moved to Neil George in Beverly Hills as an assistant to Justin Anderson in 2008.” This was a moment in time that she can’t imagine ever being repeated. She says that it was the hottest of hot salons with superstar hair dressers and A list celebrities. “Some of the hair dressers included Traci Cunningham, Amanda George, Neil Weisberg, Lori Goddard Clack, Cervando Maldenado and Justin Anderson. To have all of those hair dressers under one roof was a once in a lifetime opportunity. As an assistant I soaked up all the information I could, not only about hair but about how to conduct myself as a professional.”

Soon after she began doing hair, she was on the floor and taking her own clients. “I was so excited and was advised to go out and learn everything I could about hair extensions.” She took a Great Lengths class and a Hair Lingerie class and was happy with both techniques, but she felt like there was an easier, softer way of doing extensions without glue or heat. “Thats when The Kacey Welch Method was born. I knew there was a way to sew hair in the head because African American girls have been doing it for years.” She says at this time, there was not one single person teaching this technique at the time, around 2010. So, she just started. “I had enough knowledge of fundamentals to know how to make sure I wasn't causing any harm.  After many years of using other manufacturers hair I was never truly satisfied with what was on the market.”

So, she decided to design and create exactly what she wanted for her clients, as well as what she knew would work for clients across the country. “I wanted to take out the guess work of going into an extension store and seeing over 100 color options. I wanted to over simplify a very complicated process. Which is one of the things I am the most proud of.” They only have six colors, which is intentional. Each color is multi-demential with many different colors running through the Silk Wefts. “The hair is the method!” Kacey says that this is what sets us apart from her competitors. “You cannot buy my hair unless you have been personally trained by me and certified, which makes my Artists apart of an elite group of hair dressers across the county, who are sought after because they have access to my Silk Wefts.”

The advice Kacey would give to anyone who may want to enter the beauty or hair world would be to find a mentor. “Like I mentioned before, almost all of those hair dressers mentored me in one way or another. And some still do. Kiara Bailey, owner of Hair Lingerie, has been a key mentor in my life.  I was always humble enough to ask for help. I still do. I like to surround myself with people who have what I want and learn as much as I can from them.” These days with social media, it can make things really complicated and difficult to focus on several people who inspire you. This reason is why Kacey teaches. “This is why I want my students to feel like this is the last class they need to take. You aren't just coming to take my class to learn yet another skill, my students become my mentees and I do continued education and support with them because I feel so fortunate to have what I stated above and never want to take that for granted, so I pay it forward. Also, stay in your own lane. Do not worry about what Sally Sue down the street is doing, focus on yourself and how you can be happy, joyous and free.”

Kacey says it feels amazing to have so many people following her and taking her advice. “ I have a big heart and although I am here to make money, this is something I know works because I have been doing it for so long. My Method is incredible but more than that, my Silk Wefts are an incredible product that I have no doubt would look good on almost anyone. To be able to give a client hair, we can literally give someone their confidence back. I see it everyday with my own clients and I see it across the country now with all of my Certified Artists, and that is priceless.”

Five years from now, Kacey hopes to have blown this business up so that she has other certified artists training others, under her name. “I want to be able to stretch far and wide, globally. We are on schedule to do Dubai next year.  I know what my product does for women, how beautiful it makes them feel and how much it increases their confidence. I want to be able to give that to my Artists all over the world so they will in turn give it to their clients. That is my goal with my business and brand, to spread confidence and security in oneself.”
